Your Brand is More than Your Logo

My name is Kaylin Ingram and I am a Brand Strategist based out of Clearwater, Florida! I co-own a creative agency called Hang Ten Creative Agency where I get to help start-ups, entrepreneurs and business-owners create brands, and visual assets that truly reflect their company's essence!


One of the most important of those assets is of course, the notorious: Logo Design! It is truly my favorite part of any new project and with a background in Graphic Design, it happens to be what I specialize in. I create custom logo designs from scratch, using the Adobe Illustrator platform. Each logo is unique to the business owner and each "Brand Set" includes several variations (stacked, side, horizontal, stamp, wordmark, lettermark, etc) in every single company color so there ends up beings tons of logos to choose from!


That being said, your brand is so much more than just a logo design! Usually when I say that, people inquire about the other visual assets: fonts, colors, patterns, and imagery. Of course, these are all part of your brand too!! But in all honesty, these are all just visual assets that help play a role in telling the story of the brand. They aren't the whole picture!

There is a quote I absolutely love by Seth Godin, that goes like this:


"A brand is the set of expectations, memories, stories and relations that, taken together, account for a consumer's decision to choose one product or service over another." - Seth Godin

This statement goes well past colors, fonts, and logos. It goes into the expectations, memories, and relationships that a brand has with it's potential consumers! Now that is powerful!


You see, a brand is an expectation of an experience.


We all have an expectation of what it's like to go to Disney world! We all have an idea of what that might look like! Whether you love it or hate it, you have alllllll of these expectations of the mickey mouse ears, waiting in line, sweating your ass off, the fireworks, and the beautiful Cinderella's castle, along with every little detail in between!


All of these details come to mind as part of the brand experience of going to Disney world! Disney of course pumps money into streamlining the brand experience for everyone and making it amazing, and something to write home about (this is called brand management). This is why they have such a big brand presence. But at the end of the day, the brand belongs to YOU: the consumer!


When it comes to you and your business brand, whether you are a small business, a start-up or an entrepreneur with a 20-year old business, that just hasn't had the time to sit down and create visual assets you LOVE, it is important to think of your brand (and all of the visual assets that go along with it), in this way!


Think of your brand experience as belonging to the consumer! Not you!


You are not building this brand for you. You are building this business, to help someone with something. Think of THAT person.


Now, when it comes to your visual assets (logo, fonts, colors, social graphics, imagery, etc), it is important that what this person sees visually, reflects the essence of the brand you want to portray! The expectations, memories, stories and relationships that you want them to think of as related to your business, your brand!
